Hernandez aware of rivalry Mexican hotshot looking to gun down Reds

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez insists the club's rivalry with Liverpool stretches as far as Mexico.

The clubs are England's most successful with 37 league titles between them, the Merseysiders winning 18.

Even though the cities are separated by just over 30 miles, the feeling among fans is something that has extended to Central America.

Hernandez has bolstered his knowledge even further following his move to the Red Devils from Guadalajara in the summer of 2010.

The 23-year-old knows the importance of beating the Reds, stating the awareness of who they are playing is always in the back of their minds.

Rivalry

"I have learned a lot about the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool," said Hernandez. "In Mexico we know a lot about this already.

"All over the world they know about the history of both teams, with so many titles in the Premier League and the European Cup. It is a very important rivalry.

"But when I came here I felt different. I learned a little bit more.

"We work just the same as we do for every game. But in the back of your mind, you know it is Liverpool and it doesn't matter where we are in the league."

Hernandez scored the equaliser in last Sunday's incredible 3-3 draw with Chelsea and the Mexican believes the point could have a bearing on the title.

"The goals give me a lot of confidence and a lot of motivation to keep working and improving," he continued.

"But my focus is on the team. I don't care if I score or not.

"My goal at Chelsea was very important. We had been losing 3-0, so it was a great comeback. That point could change the title."
